Graham Repulski - Re-Arranged At Hotel Strange

There is something about Graham Repulski... So many styles of music, all harboring in havens of well cared for resting spots. A remarkable amount to hear, each different part sounding like something from the past but at the same time sounding completely fresh. The new box set titled Re-Arranged At Hotel Strange is pretty incredible. A magnum opus for Graham. Not sure he feels this way, but this release is one to be proud of.

Inside the box rest three cassettes, Re-Arranged At Hotel Strange, Contaminated Man and Boy Lung. Over forty tracks of evolutionary deviated psychedelic pop. From the roots of where this style of music came; Pink Floyd's The Piper at the Gates of Dawn and The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators for example, Graham has beaten, shaped and gleamed tunes for modern times. The biggest difference from then and now is Graham does not need to hold within one genre. Psychedelic rock, quickly shifts from something catchy to ambient warble, singer songwriter, punked out mayhem and sampled collages.

There are subtle differences in each of the three tapes in this box set. The cassette Re-Arranged At Hotel Strange has the most roots in the sixties world. With the longest track just a little over two minutes, this composition of songs moves quickly and is properly fuzzed with great lyrics and vocals. On Contaminated Man, the style changes and dives into more laid back instrumental craftiness and solid song writing. "The Next Great Cake" is one of my favorites on all three tapes. "Run for My Life" is also on the top list. Boy Lung basically is the melting pot of everything. Many shorter tracks exploring more of a low-fi psychedelic punk vibe to tripped out pop mini tracks. It is like if you shook the box set and all the fine grains of tunes fell to the tape on the bottom.

If you have been following Graham, grabbing the box set is going to be on your list already. For those new to Graham Repulski, this is a great place to start. With so many styles of music being broadcast, Re-Arranged At Hotel Strange box set has enough length to get you there and back. Making the process of understanding how talented this artist is much easier to achieve with everything under one roof. This is available with all the digital included at Graham's bandcamp page. This set falls under Graham's Shorter Recordings label.
